This is possibly my favorite album of the year.  A lot of people seem to think it’s a weak follow-up to their first album “Girls and Weather” that I’ll likely be posting in the next week or two.  Personally, I like the fact that this album slowed down from their first album’s ska-like feeling.  So, go ahead and give this a download and make sure you keep a look out for their first album going up in the next week or two.

My cousin told me to listen to this band because they “sound like My Bloody Valentine meets Animal Collective”. He was totally right. Expect this band to be the newest, biggest thing in the next few years.

This album has received a bit of criticism for straying from their normal sound, but it’s always good for bands to try new things, right?  I enjoyed this album a bit more than originally expected, but I can safely say it isn’t their best.  In fact, if it wasn’t for me previously being a fan of theirs, it probably wouldn’t have even appeared during 2009 week.  If you like the preview (their latest single) you’ll likely enjoy this album.  But, if you don’t enjoy the preview, fret not.  Their songs “Signs of Life” and “Paper Moon” might be more up your alley.  The version I have in the link is the “Deluxe Edition” with two extra songs.

Now, I know what you’re thinking.  Andrew W.K. does PIANO now?  But, the truth is, he’s always done piano.  Ever since he was a kid.  He’s classically trained, and actually really good.  You can tell even by listening to the keyboard parts in his party songs.  So go ahead and give this a download.

Apparently we’re doing 2009 week, neat.

“In Celebration” is one of the best albums I’ve heard all year (3rd best as a matter of fact). Leader Zach Burba pumps out some of the most unique pop songs I’ve ever heard. Don’t believe me? Every song sounds different. There’s a much better, full review here.

I’ve decided to do a week full of my favorite albums of 2009, and where better to start than this dance masterpiece by Dan Deacon?  Bromst is a celebration.  It’s fun, it’s dancey, it’s never boring… exactly what you want out of an electronic album.   Teddy says this is his personal album of the year, and it’s definitely one of mine.  If he ever comes to your town, I suggest you see him.  His shows are apparently really zany.  Unfortunately, I wouldn’t know… he hasn’t come near me for awhile.  Make sure you keep a look out this week for all my other favorite albums of 2009 so far.

Can you Believe the Kid was only 16 when he released this album?   His voice is so… adult.  This is one of my favorite Blues albums, and definitely worth a listen if you get the chance or if you just like blues.

Eugene is my favorite comedian.  He’s probably the funniest person I’ve ever heard of.  I have nothing really to say about him other than that if you like to laugh, you will love Eugene’s stand up.  And he’s got a new CD coming out on October 6th.  If he is ever in a town near you, I suggest you go out and see him.  Support him.  Buy his book.  He’s hilarious.
